If you have ever wanted to learn how to paint with oils and don’t know where to begin – this is the class for you! In five non-intimidating sessions, experienced instructor, Aimee Cuthrell, will lead you through the basics: from getting set up with the right materials, through an understanding of lights and darks, the use of color and texture, to the final act of pulling it all together into a finished composition. Have no fear! This class will demystify a complex medium and give you the tools to begin creating your own luminous oil paintings. Materials are not provided. A materials list will be provided after registering.
Aimee Cuthrell’s journey began in the 1970s with time spent pouring over her grandmother’s Rembrandt books and the piles of pastels, charcoals and oil paints at her mom’s kitchen table. A tough move in the 8th grade was a spring board for her – that’s when she discovered that she had the “glasses.” The “glasses” allowed her to step away from her circumstances and see the beauty of this world with great wonder.
Cuthrell’s mission is to share those “glasses” with you by creating paintings that revive the beautiful “stop and look” moments that often go unnoticed or forgotten. Teaching is also an extension of her desire to bring the “glasses” to others. For the past 17 years, she has been providing art education for students of all ages. She believes that creating art provides endless joy, and she loves sharing her passion for art through her encouraging, hands-on classes and workshops.
